The aim of this glossary is to assist in demystifying psychology and make it more accessible to people. Words will regularly be added. The words/terms are randomly selected (if you’d like to submit a ‘wish-list’ of words you’d like defined, please email me):
1. Bipolar Disorder- a major affective disorder in which both manic and depressive episodes occur. Also known as Manic-Depression.
2. Psychodynamic Psychotherapy- a form of depth psychology, distinguished by its vision of human life as problematic and conflictual.
3. Addiction- traditionally viewed as the psychological and/or physical dependence on psycho-active substances. However addiction is not limited to substance dependence, it can also entail the continued preoccupation with an activity despite it’s negative consequences and effects. Examples: drug addiction, addiction to prescription medication, gambling addiction, sex addiction, etc.
